Constitutions

Under Section 46 of the Constitution (2008), “The Basic Principles of the Union shall be the guidance in enacting laws by legislature and in interpreting the provisions of this Constitution and other laws”.

Under Section 449 of the Constitution (2008), « this Constitution is the Basic Law of all the laws of the Union ».

You can find 1947 Constitution, 1974 Constitution and 2008 Constitution in English. These translations are the best you can find.

Burma Codes and other Laws

Under Section 446 of the Constitution (2008), "existing laws shall remain in operation in so far as they are not contrary to this Constitution until and unless they are repealed or amended by the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw".

Under Section 447 of the Constitution (2008), "existing rules, regulations, by-laws, notifications, orders, directives and procedures shall remain in operation in so far as they are not contrary to this Constitution until and unless they are repealed or amended by the Union Government".

Most of the provisions of Burma Codes are still in force. After 1946, Parliamentary Acts were written in English. After 1962, Revolutionary Council Laws were written in Burmese. After 1974, Pyithu Hluttaw Laws were also written in Burmese. After 1988, you can find translations in English of Myanmar Laws.
