The Transfer of Property Act (1882)

In Myanmar, properties are divided into two categories : movable and immovable. The Transfer of Property Act 1882, which came into force on July 1, 1882, deals with the aspects of transfer of properties between living beings. One of the oldest laws in the Myanmar legal system, the Transfer of Property Act 1882 is an extension of the law of contracts and runs parallel to the succession laws.

Therefore, Transfer of Property Act 1882 applies to contracts, sales, mortgages, charges, gifts, exchanges, leases and other transfers. Transfer of Property Act 1882 is not superseded by more recent laws.
